Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
